We have been asked many times if we could stretch Singer industrial sewing machines and we decided to post our answer on our web site.Yes we can, but we do not. The reason is simple--WEIGHT. We have found that the Singer 201 and the singer industrial machine both use the same size shafts, gears, bobbins, etc. The only real difference in the two machines is weight. Our 201 after being stretched, weighs 35 pounds (about the same as most home machines). The industrial after being stretched weighs close to 90 pounds. (equal to a bag of cement). The 201 does freehand designs very easily. The heavy industrial machine is very difficult to do any designing with. In our experience, the Singer 201 wins hands down.
